What you'll learn

  • Place a biotechnology claim on the evidence ladder, from preclinical data to approval and access, and state what it does and does not prove
  • Compare nuclease, base and prime editing, and ex vivo against in vivo delivery, and select a suitable approach for a described genetic problem
  • Analyse a gene-editing safety event and weigh the regulatory, clinical and commercial responses to it
  • Compare mRNA, viral-vector and engineered-cell therapies by mechanism, critical quality attributes, safety risk and manufacturing burden
  • Explain how design-build-test-learn cycles, precision fermentation and modern bioprocessing turn engineered organisms into products at scale
  • Evaluate outputs from AI structure-prediction, protein-design and drug-discovery tools, and state what experimental validation they still need
  • Judge when human-relevant models such as organoids and organ-on-chip can support or replace animal data
  • Identify the biosecurity, ethical and access issues a frontier project raises, and the governance controls that address them

About this course

A baby has been treated with a gene editor built for his mutation alone. An mRNA therapy designed around one patient's tumour has succeeded in a phase three trial. Proteins that never existed in nature are now designed by software, and a drug whose target and molecule both came from AI has produced peer-reviewed clinical data. This course covers the technologies behind those events and, just as importantly, how to judge what the evidence actually shows. You will work through precision genome editing, RNA and cell therapies, engineering biology and biomanufacturing, AI-driven bioscience, and the regulation, biosecurity and access questions that decide what reaches patients. Every module is taught through real cases from the UAE, the wider Gulf, India, the UK and beyond, including the first approved CRISPR therapy and its Gulf approvals, the first prime-editing patient, a gene-editing safety hold and its resolution, India's low-cost CAR-T, and national genomics and biomanufacturing programmes. Leader-level activities ask you to analyse multi-issue cases rather than recall definitions. The course explains how these technologies work and how they are governed. It does not teach laboratory protocols or clinical decisions.

Who this is for

  • Life-science postgraduates and researchers
  • Biotechnology, pharmaceutical and CDMO staff
  • Clinical and diagnostic laboratory professionals
  • Regulatory affairs and quality staff working on advanced therapies
  • Science communicators, investors and policy analysts covering biotechnology

Prerequisites

Degree-level molecular biology and genetics. The SkillCert Practitioner course PCR & Molecular Diagnostics Fundamentals is recommended but not required. No laboratory access is needed.

Assessment

Each of the six modules ends with a quiz you pass at 60%, with full feedback and explanations. Fourteen interactive activities put you into new workplace situations rather than repeating the videos. The course ends with a final assessment: 30 questions drawn from a larger bank, a pass mark of 70%, unlimited attempts and score-only feedback.

Certificate

On passing the final assessment you receive the SkillCert Leader certificate for Frontier Biotechnology: Genome Editing, Advanced Therapies & AI-Driven Bioscience, issued by Innoryx Global Learning.

Career relevance

Advanced therapies, genomics and AI-driven discovery are now funded national priorities across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and India, and the people in demand are those who can assess a technology rather than only run an assay. This course builds that judgement, and connects naturally to the PCR & Molecular Diagnostics, Laboratory Biosafety & Biosecurity and ISO/IEC 17025 SkillCerts.
