What you'll learn

  • Build an audit criteria set for a site by combining GSO 2055, OIC/SMIIC, destination-market and customer requirements
  • Explain who regulates, accredits and recognises halal certification bodies in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Malaysia and India, and test whether a certificate will be accepted
  • Evaluate a halal assurance system: policy, halal committee, halal critical points, procedures, training, internal audit and review
  • Verify materials and suppliers, including certificate validity, scope and recognition, and high-risk ingredients such as gelatine, emulsifiers and processing aids
  • Audit segregation, cross-contact and cleaning controls, including scheme-specific cleansing requirements
  • Audit slaughter operations against GSO 993 and identify where scheme requirements differ
  • Handle contested and emerging areas such as alcohol, transformation, novel foods and animal welfare, referring Sharia judgements correctly
  • Plan a halal audit: audit type, team composition with a Halal Islamic affairs expert, audit time, sampling and checklist
  • Collect and test evidence through observation, interviews, mass balance, traceability and laboratory results
  • Grade halal nonconformities, separate technical from Sharia findings, and write findings that support a certification decision
  • Recognise halal certificate fraud and integrity failures, and set controls against them
  • Design a risk-based halal audit programme and complete a full simulated halal audit from evidence pack to graded report

About this course

A halal claim is a promise the buyer cannot test. Someone has to check it on their behalf, and that takes more than a certificate in a file. This SkillCert Leader course teaches you to plan, lead and report halal audits against GSO 2055-1, GSO 993 and the OIC/SMIIC halal standards, and to judge whether a certificate will be accepted in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Malaysia and India. You will evaluate halal assurance systems, verify high-risk materials such as gelatine, emulsifiers and flavour carriers, audit segregation, cleaning and slaughter, handle contested areas such as alcohol, transformation and novel foods, test evidence through mass balance, traceability and laboratory results, grade findings and design audit programmes. The course ends with a full simulated halal audit: you work through a company's certificates, records, lab reports and site photos, grade what you find, make a recommendation and compare your work with a model audit report.

Who this is for

  • Halal executives and halal committee members
  • QA and food safety managers in plants exporting to the GCC, Indonesia or Malaysia
  • Certification-body technical auditors building halal audit skills
  • Supplier and importer auditors responsible for halal materials
  • Halal consultants supporting clients through certification
  • Islamic affairs experts who want a structured audit method

Prerequisites

Working knowledge of HACCP and audit basics. The SkillCert courses HACCP Essentials and ISO 22000 Internal Auditor are useful preparation but not required. This course teaches how to audit halal requirements, not general audit method from scratch.

Assessment

Each module ends with a quiz that you pass at 60%, with full feedback and explanations. Sixteen interactive activities, most of them multi-step audit scenarios, let you practise on new situations, and the final module is a full simulated halal audit with a model report to compare against. The final assessment draws 30 questions from a larger bank, including questions on a case you have not seen before; you pass at 70% and can retake it as many times as you need.

Certificate

On passing the final assessment you receive the SkillCert Leader certificate confirming that you have completed Halal Lead Auditing: Halal Assurance Systems, GSO 2055 & Audit Team Leadership, issued by Innoryx Global Learning. It is evidence of halal audit training, not a registered auditor certification or recognition by any halal authority.

Career relevance

Halal certification is now mandatory or required for market access across the GCC, and Indonesia's mandatory regime for imported products began in October 2026. India requires i-CAS Halal certification for specified meat exports to a growing list of countries. Manufacturers, exporters, importers, caterers and certification bodies need people who can audit halal assurance systems on evidence, judge certificates across markets and lead audit teams.
